Welcome to ADHD Amy Coaching
My background:
ADHD Amy Coaching provides support and raising awareness for those with ADHD. I have experience of providing a goal based intervention for individuals with ADHD and other mental health struggles for the NHS and Solent Mind, my own lived experience of ADHD, as well as an upper 2nd in my Psychology (counselling and mental health) degree. During working for the NHS and Solent Mind I have provided 121 support, developed and implemented new materials, presented to other health care staff within the NHS, as well as presenting to family, friends and other individuals requiring more information for supporting individuals with ADHD.
Why did it start?
Due to my lived experience and seeing the positive impact more ADHD support and education can have, I now aim to pursue this on a wider level and use my talents in a more specific way. I would be someone that other staff would go to regarding ADHD information, and called the 'ADHD Lady' or 'The ADHD Expert' (although this one I feel is a bold statement as I am still learning everyday two years post diagnosis). I would also be called 'Amy ADHD' or 'ADHD Amy' by the individuals I was provided support to, which is what gave me the inspiration for 'ADHD Amy Coaching'. Due to gaining insight on the gaps in the support and the current waiting times for an ADHD assessment, this has fuelled my passion and goal to improve the parts that I can have control of. These being providing more support, more education, raising awareness and being a voice for people like myself who experienced a late diagnosis and those trying to navigate a world that isn't neurodivergent friendly. Furthermore, due to being aware of the lengthy waiting times for an assessment, all of the 121 and group support I provide is available to those on the waiting list for an assessment as well as those who have had a diagnosis.
What is the importance of lived experience?
Within my role for the NHS and Solent Mind, I was amazed at how much having lived experience was such an invaluable tool for providing support. Furthermore, not only is peer support proving to be an extremely beneficial factor for providing support for individuals, I know that at the start of my ADHD journey I would have loved to be able to speak to someone that really understood how I was feeling. Also, during running the peer support ADHD workshops that I developed, it was consistent within the feedback that it helped individuals to feel accepted, understood, and that it was a non-judgemental environment. Above all, for me personally, my lived experience means I am able to really put myself in the shoes of those I am supporting. Also, my lived experience makes me passionate, empathetic, patient and so many other great qualities that have contributed to me being successful in providing support and raising awareness for those with ADHD.
Reviews:
"I have found the support provided by Amy so useful. Now I understand myself more, I don't get so overwhelmed with anxiety. I know why I struggle with things others can do so easily, which means I no longer blame myself as much and I am not as harsh on myself"

"Thankyou so much for providing information on such an important topic that needs more awareness and education. It was so refreshing and interesting to hear about the impact that hormonal changes have on women. I found the information you gave within this presentation really helpful."
